Vehicle Data Checks
When buying a used car, we strongly urge you to have a vehicle data check. The cost is relatively small but the peace of mind makes it very worth while. Here's why we think you should have one done - particularly if you are buying from a private individual.
- If you purchase a car which still has outstanding finance, you stand to lose your money and the car in the event that finance remains unpaid. A data check will let you know if there is outstanding finance on the vehicle.
- If the car has been in a serious accident, it may have been 'written off' by the insurers. This means they considered the car too badly damaged to be safely repaired. A data check will help find out if the car has ever been a write off. If it has, it may be dangerous to drive.
- Has the car been stolen? If it has and you buy it, you will have to hand it back to the rightful owner. In other words you will lose the car and the money you spent on buying it. A data check will help to avoid this nightmare.
- Some data checks will undertake a mileage check. If their mileage register holds a reading for your car, it can help to expose any discrepancies between that which is being shown and its true mileage.
- Vehicle cloning is where a stolen car is given the identity of a genuine car - same make, model, mark, registration number and identification number. A data check will help to expose this.
A vehicle data check before parting with money is well worth the investment. We heartily recommend it.
