Tight Junctions

Some junctions have an extremely sharp turn and are difficult to take without either 'swinging out' or rolling a rear wheel over the kerb. Both are dangerous and are test failures.
Here's how to deal with tight turns.
Mirrors. Check mirrors as normal.
Signal as normal.
Position. Maintain your normal road position as you approach. It's very tempting to swing out to get a better angle of approach for a sharp turn. Don't do this - it's dangerous for approaching traffic and you may not have noticed someone trying to overtake you and swing into them.
Speed. As you approach the junction, slow down and select 1st gear if necessary.
Look. This is the crucial part. Look ahead as normal to make sure no-one is cutting in front of you. Now look carefully into the junction. If it is clear, turn in a little later than normal to avoid the rear wheel running over the kerb. This means you will turn into the junction wider than usual, but you have checked it's clear so you won't cause danger to traffic in the junction.
If you look in and see vehicles approaching the junction, wait and allow them to turn out before turning in. This is important. Sometimes other vehicles will see you turning in and stop short to allow you space, but don't assume they will do this - wait until their intentions are obvious.
Approach and turn left - tight
Notice how slow the car is going. Notice the road position and slightly later turn than normal.
Now have a look at some common mistakes.
