Tuition Industry in Crisis?
We already know there are too many driving instructors out there. TV adverts claiming instructors can earn lots of money and only have to work when they like are encouraging more and more people to train as instructors, yet the number of pupils appears to be falling - what with the credit crunch and general economic downturn.
The truth for driving instructors is, and always has been, that to earn a reasonable living you have to work long and unsociable hours. But you can only work long hours if the pupils are there.
We have seen signs of instructors moving to the large franchise companies in the belief the companies can find pupils for them yet, because these companies are expensive to pupils, there aren't any there either.
So if you are a pupil, you may be able to get a reasonable deal at the moment but be very, very careful. As with all things in life, you only get what you pay for and if an instructor is cheap he may well not be very good.
The best instructors are still holding their prices, although how long this will remain we'll have to see.
We'll keep you posted.
