Note: If the pupil is not familiar with junctions, this lesson should not be attempted before completing and practicing the junctions lesson.
S1 - As with most lessons introducing a manoeuvre, try to find somewhere quiet. Fast roundabouts can cause inexperienced pupils to try to rush pulling away with the resultant stall - and it’s no fun stalling in the middle of a fast roundabout! Also try to ensure the roundabout you are teaching is a standard four exit roundabout - more complex roundabouts will be dealt with in the next lesson.
S2 - When driving around the roundabout, pupils often find it difficult to steer, check their mirrors, change gear, signal and look where they’re going all at the same time! If this happens, give them a sequence. First move away and change to second gear, THEN check mirrors as they start to steer round, THEN signal.

S3 - Make sure the pupil is familiar with normal roundabouts before progressing to mini-roundabouts. It also may be preferable to practice tight turns as mini-roundabouts can be quite tricky to turn and the pupil will need to be confident with steering. I would suggest mini-roundabouts be treated as a separate lesson to normal roundabouts unless he/she has been particularly quick to learn.
