Find a safe place, away from bends, hill brows or parked cars and pull up on the left.

When ready, select 1st gear.

Find clutch biting point.

Observe all around the car. Keep an extra eye out for pedestrians who might cross in front or behind the car.

When clear, release the handbrake.

When the car begins to move, steer full lock to the right.

Using clutch/brake control, keep the car very slow but moving.

As the car crosses the road, look up and down the road several times.

As the car crosses over the centre, be ready to change quickly from clutch control to brake control.

When the front wheels are about 2 metres from the opposite kerb, steer quickly full lock to the left - keep the car moving.

When you have reached full lock, stop the car and push the clutch right down.

Pull on the handbrake.

Select reverse gear.

Find your clutch biting point.

Observe full 360 degrees, starting over your right shoulder and finishing looking over your left shoulder out of the rear window.

If it's clear, release the handbrake and move slowlyacross the road looking out of the rear window.

As the car crosses the road look up and down the road, finishing looking over your right shoulder out of the offside rear window (you can see the kerb easier in this position).

Remember again that you may need to change suddenly from clutch control to brake control as the car crosses the camber.

When the car is about 2 metres from the kerb, steer quickly full lock to the right - keep the car moving.

When on full lock, stop the car and press the clutch right down.

Pull on the handbrake.

Select 1st gear.

Find the clutch biting point.

Observe full 360 degrees.

If clear, release the handbrake and drive off.
